La Liga champions Barcelona are in turmoil as six board members have resigned in a huge fall-out with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu over handling of a social media scandal and coping with the coronavirus crisis.
The group has outlined the reasons for resigning which include Barca’s management of the social media scandal with the club’s leadership being accused of financing a company that planted negative stories about Lionel Messi and other top names of the squad earlier this year.
The directors also mentioned disparities in the boardroom, regarding the club’s reaction to the current crisis caused by coronavirus which has made the players look bad despite taking huge pay cuts, while putting the non-playing staff on furlough.
Yet it has been reported that Bartomeu was already planning an overhaul of his management team, and the resignations came out as a result of the members being tipped on the potential shake-up.
