The Indianapolis 500, promoted as the US’s biggest single-day race, has been postponed until the 23rd of August, as the coronavirus pandemic wreaks havoc across the globe.
The Indy 500 originally scheduled for May the 24th attracts around 350,000 spectators each year, but as the coronavirus situation continues to worsen in the United States, the IndyCar has decided to push back the event until August.
Roger Penske, the owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, says the safety of the participants and the spectators are "top priority" and promised to resume the competition under more desirable circumstances.
