Afghan government sets up ad hoc committee to tackle coronavirus outbreak

The Afghan government has taken the coronavirus outbreak seriously, saying the number of positive cases are on the rise. All educational centers, swimming pools, wedding halls and most public places are in lockdown.
Health officials in Afghanistan have asked all people to take this global threat seriously or the nation would face agonizing days.
Besides allocating some hospitals, the Afghan government has set up a committee to deal with the epidemic. The committee’s main goal is to make efforts to prevent the further spread of the disease.
The public health ministry has confirmed 21 coronavirus infection cases across Herat, Balkh, Logar, Badghis, Daikondi Samangan and Kapisa provinces.
The government has also advised people not to celebrate the Nowruz festival, which marks the solar new year, at crowded public places in order to help stop the spread of the disease.
In the meantime, the Taliban militant group has also warned the Afghan government over the consequences of a possible spread of coronavirus among Taliban prisoners. In response, Kabul called on the militant group to allow international observers to visit Taliban prisons.
Afghanistan’s public health ministry has earmarked some 25 million dollars for measures to battle the outbreak of coronavirus in the country. Meanwhile, it has assigned some hospitals in Kabul, Mazar-e Sharif and some other big cities to deal with the outbreak. But it seems the government is not capable enough to cope with the situation and may call on other states for help.
