In yet another sex-related scandal to hit the Conservative party, it has been confirmed that a Tory Councillor was a Police spy who used sex to infiltrate an animal rights group.
Andy Coles, who is a Tory councillor in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, had long been accused of deceiving a 19-year old environmentalist into a sexual relationship by way of infiltrating an animal rights group.
Scotland Yard admitted yesterday there is “credible” evidence that Coles had sexually manipulated his victim.
Coles allegedly used the false name of Andy Davey to infiltrate the animal rights group on behalf of an undercover police unit back in the 1990s.
Unrepentant
Coles, who is the brother of prominent musician and priest, the Reverend Richard Coles, continues to deny the allegations despite the accumulating evidence against him.
The sexually abused woman, known only as “Jessica”, is taking legal action against the Metropolitan Police, alleging that Coles had “groomed and manipulated” her.
“Jessica” claims that she was unaware that Coles, then in his early 30s, was a policy spy when she entered into a relationship with him.
Coles was forced to resign as the deputy police and crime commissioner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in 2017 after his spying role was exposed.
But he continues to perform the role of Tory councillor on Peterborough City Council despite public calls for him to stand down.
Widespread practice
The Metropolitan police – and other police forces in England and Wales – are known to have allowed undercover operatives to use sexual manipulation to infiltrate a wide range of left-wing movements, environmentalist groups and animal rights organisations.
In just one example, it was revealed in late 2018 that police had deployed 24 undercover officers to infiltrate the Socialist Workers Party over a 37-year period. Four of the police spies had deceived female activists into sexual relationships while using their fake identities.
In another instance, a woman who had been sexually abused by police spy Mark Kennedy claimed she was a victim of a “conspiracy to rape”.
Kennedy’s victim, known only as “Rosa” told the BBC: "You've got mentors, you've got handlers a whole backroom team of people monitoring - and directing it would seem – their [the spies] relationships, their activities".
