Iraq’s Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi says he will submit his resignation to parliament.

His decision came hours after the country’s top Shia cleric, Ayatollah Ali Sistani called for a cabinet change. Ayatollah Sistani criticized the government’s failure to bring an end to the recent unrest in the country over the economic conditions and corruption. He also condemned attacks against peaceful protesters.
