It is no secret that thinktanks and pressure groups play an important role in shaping and directing the United States foreign policy.
The most high-profile is the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the leading pro-Israel lobbying group in the US which has enormous reach within the corridors of power in Washington. But there are lesser known entities which can pack a punch equal to AIPAC. One such group is the so-called United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), a self-styled bi-partisan advocacy organization. As reported by LobeLog, leaked documents reviewed by the weblog reveal a funding apparatus which has channelled over $35 million to the extremist advocacy group and its sister organisation (the Counter-Extremism Project) over two years. The documents reviewed by LobeLog strongly suggest that the bulk of the $35 million has been provided to UANI by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
