A wide range of events are underway across China to celebrate the Mid-autumn Festival, which falls on Friday this year.

In a Pan'an County township in east China's Zhejiang Province, there were Lianhuo performances, also known as "firewalking," marking the traditional custom of celebrating family reunions.

Lianhuo, has been added to the Intangible Cultural Heritage list of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, as a tradition unique in Pan'an.

Performers of Lianhuo walk barefoot across burning coals, agitating the fire during the performance in order to ward off evil spirits and praying for good fortune.

In Wanzai ancient town of east China's Jiangxi Province, a wide variety of folk activities are underway in celebration of the traditional Chinese festival.

Colorful lanterns, tasty foods, firework displays and traditional opera performances have all left deep impressions on tourists traveling to the ancient town.

In another ancient village of Chengkan in east China's Anhui Province, local residents showed their creativity by creating pictures with peppers, beans, corns and some other crops, drawing many tourists to take photos.
