Bahrain cracks down on religious leaders

The Bahraini regime has taken its anti-democracy measures to a new level. Authorities have summoned several high-profile clerics and arrested them upon the arrival of the lunar month of Muharram when Shia Muslims commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein, the first Shia Imam and Prophet Mohammad’s grandson.

Security forces have also gone around taking down flags, and placards related the Muharram commemorations. This is not the first time the Manama regime attacks clerics and preachers who are engaged in recounting the story of Imam Hossein’s martyrdom and the whole truth about his principles and ideals.
