Picking intellectually challenged Biden would be guarantee of another Trump term: Hoenig

Picking intellectually challenged Joe Biden by the Democratic Party establishment would be almost a guarantee of another Donald Trump term, according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist.

Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday while commenting on a report which said Biden’s many embarrassing gaffes over recent days are prompting questions about his supporters about whether he can rise to the challenge of defeating President Donald Trump in 2020.

Biden, who is no stranger to slip-ups, stole the headlines three times in the past week for all the wrong reasons.

The biggest gaffe came over the weekend when he mistakenly said he was vice president during the February 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which killed 17 people.

“In 2016 the Democrats rigged their primary so that the only person who could lose to Trump would be the nominee, as well as Hillary Clinton being despised by almost as many people as Trump was. Now with the possibility of Biden being the nominee, they’re picking someone who is as intellectually challenged as Trump is. People make verbal mistakes all the time but when one is identified for that reason you seriously have to question their cognitive abilities,” Hoenig said.

“On top of his regular verbal gaffs there are many other reasons why picking Biden would be almost a guarantee of another Trump term. His politics belong in a past era. He brags about his past accomplishments but today they’re not seen in such favorable light. Whether it be his role in past crime bills or the language that he uses, he belongs very much in the past,” he added.

“Also his politics do not match those of today’s younger Democratic voter. He’s anti-universal health coverage unless it’s under the control of private insurance corporations. He strongly supports our military and foreign policy based on American exceptionalism and imperialism. And his strong support for Israel will turn off many younger voters. Also, many people remember how he used his white male entitled privilege to gang up on Anita Hill and the result has been 28 years of Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court bench,” the analyst noted.

“It wouldn’t be surprising though if the Democratic Party establishment maneuvers the mechanisms of the Primary system to nominate Biden. The leadership is very much out of touch with the modern voter, of either party. They believe that anyone can defeat Trump and as usual, see only the ‘D’ by the name as enough. This is not to say that Biden couldn’t defeat Trump but if the Democrats wanted an easier path back to the White House, picking someone who represents an uglier past and cannot match wits with this witless president is not the way to go,” Hoenig concluded.
