In order to maintain world peace, it is critical that US President Donald Trump be defeated in the upcoming 2020 presidential election, an American political commentator has said.

Former congressional staffer Rodney Martin told Press TV in an interview on Thursday that hawkish pro-Israel neoconservatives in Trump’s administration were dragging the nation into a war against Iran.

“The neocons and Zionists are trying to push the United States into war with Iran."

Martin said the hawkish neocons, who were advising Trump, such as the US National Security Adviser John Bolton, lacked the credibility to persuade the US public, or even Trump, that Iran was a rogue country that needed to be confronted militarily.

He said the neocons' agenda was in favor of Israeli and Saudi interests, and for this it lacked credibility among Americans.

“Bolton has absolutely no credibility among the broader American populous,” Martin said, adding that, “Donald Trump probably doesn’t believe him.”

Martin noted, however that if people like Bolton continued to advise Trump and he were to win a second term in office then Trump would launch a war in the Middle East against Iran to serve Israeli and Saudi interests.

“If Trump is reelected in 2020 and he retains the neocon Zionists members of his administration and national security staff … that would be the one single restriction removed that would enable him to grant Israel their ultimate wish which would be a war against Iran,” Martin warned.

For this reason, Martin emphasized that it was critical that Trump be defeated in the upcoming US presidential election, stopping him from winning a second term in office.

‘Trump’s defeat in 2020 is critical for world peace,” he said.

Bolton, who has earned notoriety as the most hawkish figure in the US administration, has recently intensified his anti-Iran rhetoric.

He openly promotes US military action against Iran.
