Subpoenas for Trump financial records on hold pending appeal: Court filing

Subpoenas for US President Donald Trump’s financial records have been placed on hold pending appeal, says a court filing.

According to the filing, Deutsche Bank AG and Capital One Financial Corp will not need to immediately hand over the records.

On Wednesday, a federal judge ruled that the banks could hand over the documents that had been sought under congressional subpoenas.

The documents include records of accounts, transactions and investments linked to Trump, his three oldest children, their immediate family members and several Trump Organization entities, as well as records of ties they might have to foreign entities.

On Friday, Trump and his affiliates submitted an appeal against the order and on Saturday, the filing in US District Court for the Southern District of New York, said, “The parties have reached an agreement regarding compliance with and enforcement of the subpoenas.”

The president's lawyers “have agreed to an expedited appeal," said Trump's outside attorney, Jay Sekulow. "However, the court will set the final schedule."

Trump has been seeking to defy congressional oversight of his administration since Democrats took control of the House of Representatives in January.

The president said last month that the administration was "fighting all the subpoenas" issued by the House, hardening his position after the disclosure of a redacted report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller on the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US election and the president's effort to impede the investigation.

Since the beginning of his presidential campaign in late 2015, Trump has insisted that he is a self-made billionaire worth over $10 billion.

His refusal to release his tax returns, which would reveal how much of a good businessman he really is, has raised more questions about his real net worth.
