Free and fair elections in Iran
Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran has shifted from dictatorship towards democracy. Free and fair elections have been a key aspect of Iranian democracy. Citizens elect the president, as well as members of the legislature and city councils. The candidates for office should be approved by a 12-member body known as the Guardian Council.
