The US military officials and neo-cons are trying to demonize China and Russia to justify extortion of money from American taxpayers, says a commentator.

Edward Corrigan, international human rights lawyer, told Press TV on Saturday that the US has got military bases right in Russian and Chinese backyards, but the American authorities and politicians are busy to distort the image of other powers to justify their own military expenditure.

“The industrial military complex, the neo-cons need a rival to continue to be able to extort money from the American taxpayer and they have had Communism, they’ve had al-Qaeda and ISIS, but it is not really the type of (sort of) enemy that the main military industrial complex wants,” Corrigan said.

“They (American officials) need Russia or China to justify massive expenditures of money when the American economy is sputtering and infrastructure is falling apart and yet they have unlimited money for intermediate nuclear weapons,” the analyst argued.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called on China to stop what Washington claims to be militarization of the South China Sea. Pompeo and Pentagon chief Jim Mattis held talks with Chinese Foreign Affairs Director Yang Jiechi and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe in Washington this week in a meeting aimed at reducing tensions over a range of political and military issues.
