Wildfire in Maui causes evacuations ahead of hurricane
Videos shared by people on Hawaii's Maui island show wildfires in the western area of Lahaina on Friday, August 24.
The videos, shared on Twitter by Joseph Azam, show flames and smoke in the distance. Azam told Reuters they were filmed from nearby Kaanapali Beach, just north of Lahaina.
The fast-growing wildfire forced the evacuation of homes and an emergency shelter set up for the storm in Lahaina, where no rain was yet falling, officials said. One woman was hospitalised with burns. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
