This edition of the program is about the rising global temperatures and climate change.
The discussion is about the heat waves across Europe, the US, the Far East and so on. Human meddling in the environment is considered the reason behind all of that.
The question is what is driving the wildfires, the soaring temperatures and the melting rooftops? Most scientists point to an obvious culprit - global warming. Only two months ago the United Nations urged countries to redouble efforts and take dramatic action to halt the phenomenon before it's too late. But opponents of this theory say other elements could be at work, including the jet stream, the strong winds around seven miles above the Earth's surface that blow from west to east and steer weather around the globe. These experts point out the stream is very settled at the moment, which explains why areas of atmospheric high pressure are lingering for long periods over the same place.
Supplementary Information:
Professor Tim Osborn of the University of East Anglia is one of the specialists who is warning of dire consequences if action isn't taken to cap global warming at well under two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels - the basis of the landmark 2015 Paris Climate Accord. But the campaign to reduce man-made climate change suffered a serious blow when President Trump pulled the US out of this agreement, saying the science was a hoax.
