Iranian futsal club Mes Sungun Varzaghan has topped the standings at the group stage of the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Club Championship, defeating Lebanese Bank of Beirut squad.
The Iranians, who had thumped Uzbekistan’s AGMK 9-1 in their previous match two days earlier, defeated their rivals 3-1 at the multi-purpose GOR Among Rogo sport arena in the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta on Monday afternoon to win Group D.
Mes Sungun shocked Bank of Beirut by taking the lead with only nine minutes into the game as Morteza Ezzati directed Abolghasem Orouji's cross into the net.
A minute later, Farhad Fakhimzadeh fired a strike into the roof of the net to put the Iranian team 2-0 ahead at the half time.
Ezzati then scored a brace in the 30th minute to give Mes Sungun a three-goal advantage.
Bank of Beirut Iranian futsal player Mahdi Javid managed to pull a goal back in the 31st minute.
Mes Sungun is scheduled to play against Osh EREM of Kyrgyzstan in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The 2018 AFC Futsal Club Championship, which is the 9th edition of the AFC Futsal Club Championship, started on August 1 and will finish on August 12, 2018.
