Terrorist activities threaten Syria reconciliation talks: Pundit

Militants wreaking havoc in Idlib province in northwestern Syria might spoil further talks on resolving the crisis in the Arab country, says a commentator.

“There are extremist elements in the Idlib area. Should they choose to come down hard on these two villages and start massacring people and so on; then that would put the whole process of reconciliation or further reconciliation in Syria under pressure,” Ammar Waqqaf, political analyst, told Press TV on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, buses arrived in Kefraya and al-Foua, both in Syria’s northwestern Idlib Province, as part of an evacuation deal to get locals out of the Shia-majority towns, which have long been besieged by foreign-backed militants.

Waqqaf said "the Syrian state thought it was time to take these people out of jeopardy."

"Should a military operation start in Idlib soon or in the coming few weeks probably months ..., then they wouldn’t be targeted and taken as hostage.”
