The implementation of China's new Environmental Protection Tax Law, which aims at curbing emissions across the country, came into effect on Monday, with many regions choosing their own individual tax rates related to the local geography and economic status.
This is China's first tax clearly designed for emissions, demonstrating the Chinese government's interest in environmental protection.
Currently, provinces and regions across China have decided to take on their own tax rates in terms of different pollutants, based on their different geographic conditions and economic status.
According to the law, the margin ranges from 12 Yuan (about 1.7 US dollars) and 1.2 Yuan per unit of atmospheric pollution, and 14 Yuan and 1.4 Yuan per unit of water pollution.
