Cheers erupted in a memorial center for the victims of the Srebrenica massacre among women watching as a UN tribunal convicted ex-Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladic of genocide and crimes against humanity for orchestrating massacres and ethnic cleansing during Bosnia's war and sentenced him to life in prison.

The women, wives and mothers of the mostly male victims of the massacre, followed the hearing of the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia on TV screens and erupted into cheers when the verdict was delivered.

Mladic, 74, was hustled out of the court minutes before the verdict for screaming "this is all lies, you are all liars" after returning from what his son described as a blood pressure test that delayed the reading-out of the judgment.
