Croatia have thrashed visiting Greece 4-1 in the first leg of the World Cup Playoff in the country’s capital Zagreb.

The Croatians availed themselves of many errors by the Greek players, putting themselves within touching distance of a place at the finals in Russia next year.

Luka Modrich and Nikola Kalinich fired the hosts in front after only 20 minutes before Greece grabbed an away goal on the half-hour mark.

But the two-goal cushion was restored shortly after through Inter Milan Winger Ivan Perisich and Andrey Kramarich. Greece are now left with a mammoth task to accomplish on home soil in Sunday's 2nd leg.
