Iran men's national football team, domestically known as Team Melli, has slumped one spot in the latest edition of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rankings to land in the 25th spot in the world, but upheld its position as the best Asian squad.
According to the latest monthly rankings released by the world’s soccer governing body on Thursday, Team Melli tallied 865 points and defended the title as the top soccer outfit in Asia.
Other Asian sides included the Japan national football team, nicknamed Samurai Blue, which moved up four positions to claim the 40th slot in the latest FIFA rankings with 737 points.
The East Asians were followed by their Australian and South Korean counterparts, who landed in the 50th and 51st spots respectively with 662 and 659 points.
Germany’s Die Mannschaft is the top-ranked soccer team in the world, having collected 1,606 points.
Brazil garnered 1,590 points to claim the second position, while third-place Portugal earned 1,386 points. Argentina dropped one spot in the world rankings and stood fourth with 1,325 points.
