It might be odd to participate in a game in which you must pull your opponent over the table, using your finger and a small leather band. But it really happens in Southern Germany.

The 58th edition of a traditional sports event of finger wrestling has kicked off in Bavaria. Men and women dressed up in old-style costume to watch male participants battle for the annual champion title. Injuries are quite common among competitors with many often drawing blood or dislocating finger joints.
First aid is usually on hand to help those with more brutal injuries. Wrestlers build up their finger muscles by lifting weights with one finger and doing one-fingered pull-ups.
The finger wrestling is thought to have originated in the 17th century as a way of settling disputes in Alpine countries.
