Knife attack forces Petra Kvitova out of Australian Open

Two-time Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova will be out of action for 6 months following a knife attack at her home. This means, she will miss the 1st Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open.

The Czech tennis star suffered severe injuries to her left hand when she was defending herself against an intruder who attacked her with a knife at her home in the town of Prostejov. The 26-year-old underwent nearly 4 hours of surgery and is now recovering.

This is while, Kvitova said she was fortunate to be alive after the incident and she is ready to do everything she can to get back competing at the highest level.
