In a move that risks stoking already-simmering tensions in Jerusalem al-Quds between Jews and Arabs, a member of Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition is tabling legislation that could put strict limits on Islamic prayer calls from mosques in the city and across Israel.

Some worry that is just one of the many aspects of Israel’s Islamophobic practices that seek to undermine the Palestinians' Islamic faith.

The move has been met with fierce opposition with by Palestinians. Ahmad Tibi, a member of the Israeli parliament, recited the Adhan during a speech and said the proposed bill calling to limit Adhan demonstrated the Israeli’s Islamophobia. Another Arab politician, Taleb Abu Arar, also joined Tibi in the call to prayer.

Many fear that the bill could be the first of many emboldened moves against Muslims within Palestine now that Donald Trump is the new president. There is a fear that this could be the first of many bills intended to further humiliate the Palestinians.

We intended to extend the discussion to explore the multi-faceted in which Israel tries to undermine and suppress Islam throughout Palestine. We will discuss the restrictions on the al-Aqsa Mosque and other restrictions imposed during religious holidays that prevent Muslims from practicing their faith.
