US Republican president-elect Donald Trump won the race against her Democratic rival Hillary Clinton by causing “white America” to panic and stirring “white fear” among people who do not want minorities to grow, says an American political analyst.
Speaking to Press TV on Wednesday, Alan Bean, an executive director at the Friends of Justice, said there was a significant reason why the Democratic Party lost the race to the White House despite having the elite and the mass media on their side.
“The really amazing things about this election is that all of the elites in America, whether we are talking about the universities, the academy, the financial people on Wall Street, the captains of industry, certainly the mass media… almost all newspapers in the United States endorsed Hillary Clinton,” he said.
“Even Fox News which usually is the voice of the very conservative white America was somewhat divided on Trump… and yet he won,” the analyst noted.
The election result indicated that America is reaching a “tipping point” where minorities are “growing very rapidly” while the younger generations are increasingly developing liberal mindsets.
“So all of these demographic trends are moving in the direction of the Democrats and I think White America—that is folks who grew up in a nation that was controlled by white people, where decisions were made for white people—is starting to panic,” Bean argued.
“That panic became so profound that it drove them to the polls in the numbers far exceeding anything that anybody had expected,” he further explained.
Trump’s campaign was marked with inflammatory remarks about people from various races and religions.
He threatened to ban all Muslims from entering the US, while accusing Syrian and Somali refugees coming to the country of being terrorists.
The New York businessman also pledged to deport all undocumented immigrants and build a wall on the border with Mexico to prevent illegal border crossings to the US.
Another game-changer, according to Bean, was the FBI’s probe into Clinton's emails.
The FBI had cleared Clinton of all charges in connection to her use of a private email server when she was secretary of state. However, only days before the Election Day, the bureau reopened the case after finding new emails.
The fiasco did considerable damage to Clinton’s reputation, although she was cleared of all charges for a second time.
“I think probably if [FBI Director James] Comey had not intervened, Hillary would have squeaked out a very narrow victory,” he said.
Democrats rushed to blame Comey, after Clinton failed to take enough electoral votes to win on Tuesday, despite winning the popular vote. Trump defeated her 289 votes to 228 votes.
“I think it really was white fear that grow to this thing; we have non-white electorate, we have the white electorate and they are becoming more polarized all the time,” Bean concluded.
