Multiple people, including a young girl, have been shot and wounded in east Baltimore, Maryland, a day after another shooting left 5 dead in Washington State.

Three shooters opened fire on Saturday night and injured 8 people, including 6 adult men and a 3-year-old girl and her father, who were all hospitalized.

“Two of the shooters were armed with handguns, and one of the shooters we believe was armed with a long gun of some sort, we believe was a shotgun,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said.

The three suspects are at large and police have not yet identified anyone in connection with the incident.

“This was a planned, premeditated act of retaliatory violence,” Davis said, adding the shooting may be linked to a similar incident which happened over Labor Day weekend, where a man was fatally shot and two others were wounded.

Also on the same day, an 8-year-old girl was shot in a shooting where a dozen shots were fired. The girl was shot in the foot and hospitalized in stable condition.

The shootings happened after a deadly rampage in the US state of Washington Friday night, when 20-year-old Arcan Cetrin opened fire at a shopping mall, killing 4 women instantly. A man also died of his gunshot wounds later.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), firearms are the cause of death for more than 33,000 people in the United States every year, a number that includes accidental discharge, murder, and suicides.
