Press TV has conducted an interview with Sara Flounders, co-director, International Action Center from New York, about US attack on the Syrian forces in Dayr al-Zawr.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: What’s the point of this meeting, so to speak, of the so-called international Syria support group considering the US has proven in this almost week that it is not interested in a true ceasefire?

Flounders: Well, this is a very very dangerous provocation and real escalation that happened on Saturday when a US jet aircraft bombed the Syrian Arab Army, the actual military forces of Syria, and did it in a way that allowed ISIS or Daesh forces to have the upper-hand and it really shows who in fact the US protects when they’re bombing from the air. And at the very same time of course the US Special Forces went in with Turkey into Syria.

So, everything that could be done in order to violate the ceasefire was done and done flagrantly, done openly, done in a way that is outrageous and should be outrageous to the entire world. And it means that any cooperative agreement of all of the countries trying to arrive at a ceasefire, trying to arrive at peace are just being pushed to the side and the determination to continue the efforts to carry out a regime change and overturn the legitimately recognized and elected government in Syria are being pushed back by the effort to really bring complete chaos to Syria.

Press TV: Why go through this theatrics of sitting down with Russia, hammering out a truce agreement, trying to of sorts implement it and then of course right now when that truce is clearly over then calling for an emergency meeting to come up with another solution?

Flounders: Well, of course diplomats always have to stay busy while the military forces fight it out on the ground and so a lot of this is a complete fraud. The UN General Assembly is meeting this week in New York and so of course at this time the US government feels a certain pressure to make it seem that they’re for a diplomatic solution. There may also be real differences within ruling circles and within the military and all of its intelligence agencies and its many arms within the US, because there are groups in there who have billions of dollars of profits at stake in continuing war, spending more and setting up war against other countries. They’re not interested in the ceasefire.

So, they may be able to do things to continue the war regardless of what is arrived at through diplomacy. It’s hard for us to notice. We are planning a demonstration on Wednesday as the UN Security Council meets to say hands off Syria. And those actions are being planned actually around the world. This is an important time to demand of the US that they stop the war on Syria and these escalation, these provocations are really in every sense criminal. And we should say they’re showing no interest at all in diplomacy, in ceasefire, in peaceful reconciliation. They want to go ahead with bombing and also with arming fanatical and mercenary groups within Syria.
