US, KSA not counting cost of supporting terrorists: Analyst

Press TV has interviewed E. Michael Jones, editor of Culture Wars Online Magazine in Indiana, about Saudi Arabia’s former spy chief attending an annual meeting of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO), a terrorist group highly detested in Iran, raising the stakes in the kingdom's confrontational approach toward the Islamic Republic.

A rough transcription of the interview appears below.

Press TV: This is a terrorist organization which the US now supports along with its ally the Saudis, a country ironically accused of being one of the biggest sponsors of state terrorism. Your take.

Jones: Well as you mentioned this group was on the terrorist list and then it got taken off. As I understand it was the lobbying of Hillary Clinton that got it taken off. So this is significant for the upcoming election because she is involved in using these groups of terrorists when she thinks they are useful to her foreign policy. She was also involved with the support of al-Qaeda which was supposed to be the enemy in the war on terror but she supported them in Libya and used them to overthrow Gaddafi.

So I think the point to make here is that we just had five policemen shot in a Black Lives Matter rally down in Dallas and I think the chickens are starting to come home to roost. Actually George Soros spent 33 million dollars to support Black Lives Matter. It is time that we started to realize that the blowback from these black operations with these proxy wars is too bigger price to pay. We need to get out of this business.

Press TV: Saudi Arabia has shown in Iraq and Syria that it supports using terrorist groups as a tool to achieve its objectives. Is this just another ploy toward the same end?

Jones: Well yes, I think it is. This goes all the way back to Afghanistan and the Saudi-US alliance to drive the Soviet Union out of Afghanistan. Everybody thinks that was a big success. There is a movie about it called “Charlie Wilson’s War” and it is just one of these ambiguous issues here. The movie ends when the Soviets pull out but unfortunately in reality did not end when the Soviets pulled out and that has come to haunt us to this day. It is always the problem with irregular warfare. It is not a light switch that you can turn it on and off. It comes back to haunt you.

Press TV: So what is the rationale with the US now befriending this terror organization because this organization has been involved in numerous killings, bombings and terrorist activities and it is no secret? Why is the US a friend of theirs now?

Jones: Because the United States is allied with Saudi Arabia and Saudi Arabia is now in a war with Iran over who is going to control the Persian Gulf, so that is why they would support this group.

Press TV: But does that justify supporting terrorist groups for those political purposes?

Jones: Nothing justifies supporting terrorist groups. The trouble is that this was not in the news. We are talking about it now but it was not in the news over here, no one knows about it, people just go to the movies and they see things like Charlie Wilson’s War and they think oh this is great, it saved us a lot of money.

This is the rationale that Hillary Clinton used in Libya. We overthrew that guy on the cheap because other people did the dirty work for us. Well they are not counting the true cost, that is the problem and the same thing is with the [MKO]. You are not counting the true cost when you involve yourself with terrorist organizations.
