US Scientists have gone one step further to make us wonder if there was once life on Mars. They've discovered evidence showing that water used to flow on the surface of the red planet.

Researchers have found evidence for widespread carbonates and clays, which suggests the presence of liquid water for the Red Planet's past.

They say some of the carbonate rocks were nearly 4 billion years old and buried under 5 kilometers of lava and caprock.

The discovery suggests that Mars was once a warmer and probably habitable environment with liquid water.

The researchers identified the carbonates using data from the Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars.
