NASA has caught on camera one of the rarest phenomena on Mars. NASA’s Opportunity Mars rover captured a dust devil spinning across barren floor.

The dust devils passed through the field-of-view of the rover’s navigation camera, perched on the edge of a steep hill. The region contains clay minerals which might have formed when the red planet was warmer and potentially habitable.
Just like earth, the dust devils are produced when warm air combines with wind during the Martian summer. They are strong and well-formed whirlwinds, reaching up to ten meters wide and more than 1000 meters tall.
