A Mexican entrepreneur has created a device that accurately monitors how much fuel is being put into vehicles at the gas pump.
Called Gasonet, it was made after drivers complained that some gas stations were overcharging customers for fuel. In this device, a flow sensor is attached to the car’s fuel hose. The gasoline passes through the device, which measures how much fuel is being delivered to the vehicle. Gasonet sends the information to an external device such as a smartphone. The app will use the data gathered by users to rank them, so they can choose the best petrol stations.
The project is currently running tests with several prototype units installed in different vehicles. The idea is to involve the Mexican Consumer Authority, so the app can send them the information directly along with a complaint. The project doesn't have government support yet, but it could have the potential to be placed in 36 million units a year.
