Russia is preparing a batch of prototype Armata tanks for field trials with the country’s armed force.
The advanced armor platform is manufactured by Russia’s leading tank producer Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) and was first unveiled in May 2015 during a parade in Moscow.
“This batch has more than 20 vehicles. The trial of the prototypes will help us eliminate possible drawbacks,” said the company's deputy director, Vyacheslav Khalitov, on Sunday.

“Then we will send them to the armed forces to see how they prove themselves in different climatic conditions. That will be in 2016-17,” he added.
The tracked platform can be used with various types of weaponry configurations, such as a self-propelled gun or a rocket launcher or can even be outfitted as an infantry fighting vehicle.
“The 152mm caliber is pretty effective and doesn't require special ammo to deal with armor. A 152mm shell's kinetic energy is high enough to just blow a turret away. So this is a promising direction and we are considering it,” Khalitov noted.

According to UVZ, the latest prototype has been designed with ground breaking military technology which is at least a decade ahead of its rivals.
Apart from utilizing a combined radar and optic camouflage defense system and advanced reactive and conventional ammo, the platform is equipped with a hard-kill active defense system dubbed Afganit which targets and destroys incoming artillery.
