- The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution says the West could never win the Iranian nation’s trust because of their domineering policies and insincere cooperation with other nations. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei told visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping that Iran seeks closer partnership with more independent countries.
- Amnesty International has slammed Israel over its ill-treatment of Palestinian journalist Mohammad al-Qeeq, who is under Tel Aviv’s administrative detention. The rights group has demanded the immediate release of Qeeq. The Palestinian detainee has been on hunger strike for nearly two months.
- Greek people have rallied in the capital Athens in protest at planned pension reforms. The leftist Syriza party seeks to cut the state-guaranteed pensions by nearly half. Greece is under pressure from its lenders, including the EU, to impose drastic spending cuts in return for rescue funds.
- A pro-refugee rally has been held in the French port city of Calais, with demonstrators drawing attention to the poor conditions in a nearby camp known as the Jungle. The camp is a temporary home to thousands of refugees who are seeking to reach Britain.
- Russia has called US claims of readiness for military intervention in Syria destructive. US Vice President Joe Biden has said that the United States and Turkey are prepared for QUOTE a military solution in Syria if a political settlement is not possible. Biden was speaking at a news conference in Turkey.
- At least nine Saudi soldiers have been killed in Yemeni retaliatory attacks in the Jizan border region. Earlier in the day, Saudi warplanes targeted a residential area in Sana'a, killing a civilian. More than 83-hundred Yemenis have lost their lives in the months-long air campaign.
- US Secretary of state, John Kerry, has reiterated Washington’s support for Saudi Arabia’s ongoing war on Yemen. Kerry said the aerial attacks were aimed at dealing with Ansarullah Movement and al-Qaeda operatives in Yemen. Kerry was speaking at a press conference in Riyadh.
- At least twelve people have been killed and a state of emergency declared in several US states as a massive blizzard sweeps through the East Coast. Thousands of flights were canceled in Washington DC. Authorities say 85 million people could be affected as the blizzard is heading north.
