UK govt. mocked for misspelling
British users on the social media have been mocking the government for misspelling the word ‘language’ in a press release informing the public about a new policy on English language tests for migrants.
The Home Office published on Friday a press release which read “new English language test for family route migrants.” It immediately moved to rectify the error, as a fiery backlash played out online.
Some of the comments on social media read as:
“Clearly, the Home Office isn't British, is probably just here to scrounge and should be deported immediately.” "Maybe staff at the Home Office need to take the English language test.”
"If there was one announcement you would double and triple check....”
The mistake comes as migrants are threatened with deportation if they fail the proposed new tests.
The release was set to provide details on the government’s plans to make migrants sit a speaking and listening test if they want to stay in the UK.
Now the government has began an attempt to play down the gaffe, saying everyone is “open to mistakes.”
