It has been reported that David Cameron has earned more than £500,000 in private rent after moving into 10 Downing Street in May 2010.

According to a report by The Mirror, Cameron has been letting out his luxury home in a fashionable London neighborhood since he became prime minister.

He is estimated to have received £1,750 per week, which amounts to more than £500,000 over the past 67 months.

The revelation has given rise to a barrage of criticism against the prime minister who has already said he worries about his kids being able to afford a home.

“If he thinks his kids have a problem buying a home, he should take a moment to think about what life is like for everyone else,” said Shadow Housing Minister John Healey.

It has also been revealed that Chancellor George Osborne has also been renting out a residential property in London since 2011.

Meanwhile, according to a recently published report, a growing number of UK MPs are landlords, with 128 Tory MPs owning their own homes.

The Tories have already been under fire for a controversial Housing Bill, which includes plans for a mass sale of social homes and an end to life tenancies for those in council housing.

The plan, which is currently passing through Parliament, will allow developers to build flats of up to £450,000 each instead of new social housing.

“Cameron and [Chancellor George] Osborne have shown no understanding of the housing pressures facing millions,” said Healey, one of the fierce critics of the proposed bill.

Some critics see the Housing Bill as “the end of the road for affordable housing.”

The bill also contains “pay to stay” fees for residents of council housing who earn more than £30,000.

Critics say the plan will ultimately result in reduced security for residents.
