360-kg alligator found at US shopping center parking lot

An alligator dubbed “Godzilla” weighing more than 800 pounds was found wandering outside a Houston-area shopping center, November 7, 2015 (National Post)

A 360-kilogram alligator, dubbed Godzilla, has been found and captured in a shopping center in the US state of Texas.

The alligator tipping the scales at more than 800 pounds was found wandering outside a Houston-area shopping center on Saturday with authorities believing that the gator may have come over to the plaza from a nearby creek.

Alligator hunter Christy Kroboth, who is licensed by the state as a “nuisance alligator trapper,” managed to subdue the animal and cart him away along with an officer

“We tried to do a front catch with him where you hold jaws and get him taped.  But he was so big his jaws were too big for my hands. I couldn't get my hands to fit around his mouth," Kroboth said. “We tried several different attempts on how to catch him. Finally we thought we had him wore out enough to put two people on the back of him and kinda outweigh him which clearly did not work."

She added that once the wandering animal was muzzled and restrained, it took a forklift to load him onto a truck.

According to Kroboth, the alligator, with one blind eye and and another with only partial sight, will be taken to an alligator farm in El Campo to live out his days.
