Press TV has conducted an interview with Antony Hall, a professor at the Lethbridge University, to ask for his take on an American rabbi’s criticism of the Israeli regime’s mistreatment of not only Palestinians, but also non-Orthodox citizens in the occupied territories of Palestine.
The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: Rick Jacobs says that Tel Aviv’s policies towards Palestinians are “misguided,” what do you think Sir?
Hall: Well, I think he’s acting in accordance with the best traditions of the Jewish heritage the Ten Commandments. Number sixth is clearly “Thou shalt not kill.”
And of course that is what we’re seeing in Israeli treatment of Palestinians, the kind of genocidal attacks.
He also criticizes the Jewish settlements, which are illegal. And number eighth of the Ten Commandments is “Thou shalt not steal.”
So, he’s upholding his Jewish face and religion by criticizing Israel.
Press TV: And Mr. Jacobs also says that Israel is becoming increasingly more intolerant and violent towards Palestinians and even non-Orthodox Jews or Ethiopian Jews. What is the reason you’re thinking in your view for this?
Hall: I think it’s a very extremist government that has taken control of Israel proclaiming that speaks on behalf of all Jewish people in the world, that clearly isn’t the case. There are dissent Jews, Christians and Muslims - all Abrahamic religions - who condemn the human rights violations, the violations of international law, even biblical law by [Israel].
Press TV: Yes, professor. Well unfortunately a condemnation alone hasn’t brought about any change. Why isn’t the international community doing anything to stop this violence?
Hall: The international community is in a great crisis. The rule of law of the institute has been thrown out into a dump and it’s a law of jungle. And we have to start to move back to the ... of a rule-based systematic global level to respect and adhere to the international law.
