One person has been killed and another injured at a university shooting in the US state of North Carolina.
The shooting occurred at 1:20 am Sunday, when a gunman shot the victims on the campus of the Winston-Salem State University.
The victims were both students at the university, but the assailant, identified as Jarrett Jerome Moore, was not listed as one.
"The suspected gunman is not believed to be a current student. The campus has been cleared; the gunman has not been apprehended," said university spokesman Aaron Singleton.
Winston-Salem city police and the campus police are investigating the shooting.
The university was placed on lockdown immediately after the shooting and the students were ordered to take shelter indoors.
The university called off the lockdown after it determined there was no threat of further violence.
Authorities urged witnesses with any information on the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward.
On October 1, a gunman opened fire at a community college in Oregon and killed 9 people before taking his own life.
