Earlier, Millions held ceremonies worldwide to mark Tasua, the 9th day of Muharram. Imam Hussain and 72 of his companions were martyred in the seventh century.
- Spanish activists gather outside an Israeli cultural center in Madrid to denounce Israel's atrocities in the Palestinian territories. The protesters voiced their support for an international movement which seeks to boycott Israel for violating the rights of Palestinians. A similar rally was staged in the Italian capital Rome.
- German police foil a plot to attack refugee centers with firearms and cold weapons. Police arrested 13 suspects in the city of Bamberg in Bavaria State on Wednesday. Some of the plotters are members of extremist groups involved in xenophobic attacks.
- The UN refugee agency says it’s received reports of asylum seekers having been forced to have QUOTE survival sex with smugglers to continue their journey into Europe. Some of the abuse is reportedly taking place at overcrowded reception sites such as migrant centers in Greece.
- The death toll from a US airstrike on a charity hospital in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz has risen to 23. Doctors Without Borders has confirmed the death of another staff member in the attack which took place on October the third. Washington has called the airstrike a mistake.
- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has reiterated that only the Syrian people can decide the fate of the country’s President Bashar al-Assad. Following a meeting with his Turkish, US and Saudi counterparts in Vienna, Lavrov stressed that the crisis cannot be resolved on the battlefield or through a coup.
- The Syrian army has managed to clear more areas in the Aleppo countryside of foreign-backed terrorists. The army has been engaged in fierce fighting against militants over the past week. Syria's violence fueled by Takfiri groups has killed more than 250-thousand people since 20-11.
- Hurricane Patricia rips through Mexico’s Pacific coast as a dangerous Category 5 storm, bringing heavy rains and cyclonic winds. Officials declared a state of emergency in dozens of cities, closing airports and schools in at least three states. Patricia has been dubbed the most powerful hurricane on record in the Western Hemisphere.
