The Iranian Army is to launch a large-scale military drill, backed by the Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base.

The two-day military exercise, dubbed Moharram, will begin on Monday in west and northwestern Iran.

Rapid reaction units from the Iranian Army’s Ground Force, radar and missile units of Khatam al-Anbia, as well as the Air Force will take part in the drill.

Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told reporters on Sunday that the military exercise has been planned and will be conducted in proportion to potential threats the Islamic Republic faces.

The Iranian commander emphasized that one of the objectives of military exercises of this sort is to maintain and increase the readiness of the Iranian Armed Forces.

He said the drill will convey a message to those who harbor the illusion of threatening Iran that the Iranian Armed Forces would give a tough and crushing response to threats.

Pourdastan added that Iran is currently faced with threats from Takfiri terrorist groups supported by the United States. However, the Iranian commander reassured the nation that no one can ever pose a threat to the Islamic Republic.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in the production of important military equipment and systems.

The country has also conducted other major military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and state-of-the-art equipment.

The Islamic Republic maintains that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
