US voters prefer ‘new ideas’ in presidential candidate: Poll

Most Republican voters say it is more important that a US presidential candidate has new ideas than “experience and a proven record,” a new poll has showed.

A new survey shows that American voters prefer a presidential candidate with “new ideas and a different approach” to win the White House.

According to the survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, Republican and Democratic voters have showed that they have significantly different perspectives on the election campaigns of their parties.

Since March, the percentage of Republican voters who prefer a presidential candidate with “new ideas and a different approach” has surged by more than two-to-one, 65 percent to 29 percent.

However, five months ago, Republican voters were favoring experience and a proven record over new ideas, 57 percent to 36 percent.

Meanwhile, 50 percent of Democratic voters say it is more important for a candidate to have experience and a proven record, whereas 42 percent think new ideas and a different approach is more important.

In March, 46 percent of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters favored experience and 49 percent valued new ideas in a presidential contender.

Fifteen Republicans are seeking their party’s nomination for president but only Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz are considered serious contenders.

Hillary Clinton is competing against only three Democrats and Independent Senator Bernie Sanders for the Democratic Party's nomination. Only Sanders is considered competitive in the early primaries.

But, according to reports, Vice President Joe Biden is getting serious to challenge Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

The Pew survey also showed that more than two-thirds of Republicans, 69 percent, say they would vote for a candidate who wants to cancel the nuclear agreement with Iran, while only 14 percent of Democratic voters say they would not favor an anti-Iran deal candidate.

The Pew poll was conducted from September 22 to 27 and was released on Friday.
