The Iranian men’s national table tennis team has maintained its unblemished record intact at the 22nd edition of the Asian Table Tennis Championships in Thailand, achieving three tremendous victories in a row over opposite squads.

On Sunday, the Iranian outfit, comprised of left-handed Noshad Alamiyan, his younger brother Nima, and Afshin Norouzi, chalked up a hard-earned 3-2 win against the North Korean squad in an encounter at the second round of the tournament in the Indoor Athletics Stadium in the resort city of Pattaya, located about 100 kilometers (62 miles) southeast of the capital, Bangkok.

Iran’s victory over the East Asian powerhouse was precious as it came over a span of six decades, helping the Iranians secure a place in the competitions among the top eight teams.

Earlier in the day, the Iranian men’s national table tennis team had defeated Kazakhstan 3-1.

The Iranian athletes achieved a 3-0 victory over the Indonesian team on Saturday evening. The achievement propelled them to the second round of the games.

Meanwhile, the Iranian female table tennis team suffered a 0-3 defeat against their North Korean counterparts in their second round opener. The Iranian sportswomen will return to action on Monday as they will play against Vietnam to claim the 11th place.

The 22nd edition of the Asian Table Tennis Championships started in Pattaya, Thailand, on September 26 and will finish on October 3.
