Iran’s national youth football team has continued its impressive performance at the qualification round of the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 Championship, thrashing the Bahraini squad.

Iranians, who trounced India 3-0 in their second encounter of the tournament on September 18, trounced the Bahrain squad 6-0 in a Group E match played at the Gostaresh Foulad Stadium in Iran’s northwestern city of Tabriz on Sunday.

The Persians exerted a spell of pressure on India’s goal since the commencement of the game, and Mohammad Reza Ghobeishavi opened the scoring for the hosts in the first minute.

Mohammad Sharifi doubled Iran’s lead in the 18th minute, and Mohsen Godarzi scored the third goal for the Iranian outfit just before the referee Carymyrat Kurbanow from Turkmenistan blew on his whistle. The Iranians went into the break with a three-goal lead.

The Persians carried on the momentum as they returned to the field. Sharifi seized a fine opportunity in the 51st minute and put the ball into the back of the net to make it four for Iran.

Erfan Sadeghi and Mohammad Reza Davari netted Iran’s fifth and sixth goals in the 65th and 89th minute respectively.

The 2016 AFC U-16 Championship, which will be the 17th edition of the tournament, is scheduled to be played between September 15 and October 2, 2016 in India.

The four semi-finalists of the tournament will qualify for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will also be staged in India. Indian youth football team has qualified automatically for the event as the hosts.
