Press TV has interviewed Dimitri Diliani, a member of the Palestinian Fatah movement's Revolutionary Council, to discuss a draft resolution on hoisting the Palestinian flag at the UN headquarters.
What follows is a rough transcript of the interview.
Press TV: Thank you so much for being with us. Well tell us about the overall significance of this if it does happen. What does it mean for the Palestinians?
Diliani: Well it means another defeat to the Israelis in the international arena. Its uplifting morale wise to the Palestinian people that our flag, after all this struggle, now is going to be on top of the United Nations.
It is another step as Ambassador Mansour said to strengthen the pillars of the Palestinian state in the international arena, It is another step in the right direction and this is how we are doing it at the diplomatic level. While we are stead-fast on the ground, resistant on the ground, we are taking action on the diplomatic level and in the international arena because as international community is silent towards the atrocities and the crimes committed against our people, we have to do something and we chose this non-violent resistance on the ground and a diplomatic action offensive in the international arena.
Press TV: Do you think choosing this non-violent resistance on the ground ultimately you can get your Palestinian state back? Will it take you to victory?
Diliani: Well it has to come within the whole vision, it is everything together. It is non-violent resistance coupled with the diplomatic offensive. Having violent resistance on the ground, something we have tried for many many years and Fatah was spearheading that direction, we lost a lot diplomatically and we are unable to achieve anything on the ground, but at the same time, non-violent Intifada 1987 had brought us to the state where we have a UN recognized Palestinian state when our case is heard all over the world.
And so far it has been proven that violent actions only provide political cover for Israel to practice its saddest crimes against our people nothing else. We have to understand that the resolution for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian problem and the establishment of the Palestinian state can happen only [inaudible].
