India is home to many colorful festivals. And now comes one of the world’s largest religious ceremonies known as Kumbh Mela.
Kumbh Mela is the largest pilgrimage festival in Hinduism. The event is held once in every 12 years. During this time of the year, tens of millions of pilgrims from across India flock to the Godavari River in the city of Nashik in the western state of Maharashtra. Hindu devotees kick off the occasion by taking a bath in the waters of the river which they deem as holy. It is believed that bathing in the river cleanses a person of all sins. Around 30-million pilgrims are expected to gather over 30 days in Nashik this year.
