Press TV has interviewed Kaveh Afrasiabi, an author and political analyst from Boston, and Michael Lane, founder of the American Institute for Foreign Policy, in North Carolina, to discuss the recent remarks made by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, asserting that Iran will block all US influence in the country.

Afrasiabi says the Iranian people share Ayatollah Khamenei’s “healthy” cynicism about Washington and its “meddling” and “interventions” in Iran’s internal affairs since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

“There is a big chasm between the rhetoric and actual policies of the US,” he says. “The US’ policy is very chaotic, contradictory, and incrementalist.”

The US is trying to “sow division” between Shia and Sunni Muslims and there is “empirical evidence” that support the latest points made by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in this regard, Afrasiabi argues.

He also slams the White House for opting to “contain” Daesh instead of defeating the Takfiri group in Syria and Iraq.

He further notes that there are many questions regarding Washington’s policies, particularly those outlined by Ayatollah Khamenei about partitioning Iraq.

Lane, for his part, says that US President Barack Obama thought by reaching the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran, the hard work is over and Washington can now easily follow its interests in the country.

He also rejects claims that the US is trying to “conquer” the Middle East and says that, like other regional players, Washington only tries to be the “major hegemonic country” in the region.
