Israeli forces have opened fire and fatally shot a Palestinian man in the northern part of the occupied West Bank as he allegedly sought to stab an Israeli border policeman at a checkpoint.
Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri said the slain Palestinian purportedly approached the checkpoint at the Tapuah junction near Nablus, situated approximately 49 kilometers (30 miles) north of al-Quds (Jerusalem) on Monday, and then tried to carry out a stabbing attack.
She added that another Israeli border policeman saw the alleged attempt, and shot the Palestinian man, killing him on the spot.

The development came only two days after another Palestinian man, identified as 21-year-old Rafiq Taj, succumbed to his wounds sustained after allegedly stabbing an Israeli border policeman at the Beita junction near Nablus.
Tensions remain high in the West Bank following the recent death of an 18-month-old Palestinian baby boy in an arson attack on his home by Israeli settlers.

On July 31, a large fire broke out after settlers threw firebombs and Molotov cocktails into two Palestinian houses in the town of Duma, located 25 kilometers (15 miles) southeast of Nablus. Palestinian toddler Ali Sa’ad Dawabsheh was burned to death as a result.
Sa’ad Dawabsheh, the 32-year-old father of Ali, died at Soroka Medical Center in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba, located 115 kilometers (71 miles) southeast of Tel Aviv, early on August 8.
His wife, Riham, and four-year-old son Ahmad remain in critical condition in hospital. Riham was put on a respirator at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center, also known as Tel HaShomer Hospital, in the occupied Palestinian territories on August 10.
Israeli settlers have in recent years carried out various attacks, including arson and graffiti on Palestinian property, in the West Bank and al-Quds (Jerusalem) under the “price tag” slogan.
