Press TV has conducted an interview with Hazem Salem, a political activist and commentator from Cairo, to get his take on the anniversary of the victory of the Hezbollah movement during an Israeli-waged war against Lebanon in 2006.
The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: I want your reflections on nine years down the line, what this Hezbollah victory over Israel means for the region?
Salem: Well, in fact it means that upper hand of Israel and its allies whether the Europe or the United States cannot impose anything on the people of this region whether Palestinians, Lebanese or whomever. And this has shown also that there is not only one color for resistance. Resistance is made of many different colors, some are Sunni like Hamas, some are Shiite like Hezbollah and not supporting it like the free patriotic movement. After this whole era, people who thought that Lebanon will be defeated, Hezbollah will be defeated and Israel will have upper hand in 2006, it didn’t happen. It’s also surprising that August 14 at the same day of Rabia al-Adawiyya anniversary two years after Rabia al Adawiyya and eight years between 2006 and 2009 after the victory of Hezbollah and Lebanon against Israel it means that resistance here there and everywhere will never be defeated. Press TV: Indeed, and I want to ask about that, Mr. Salem, because you know Seyyed Nasrallah spoke about the fact that division is being used as a tool in the region by America and Israel to their benefit. How do you feel about that especially considering as you connected this Rabia al Adawiyya as well and of course the Hezbollah victory?
Salem: Well, the fact is during these days of the fighting in 2006 there were other Arab countries especially Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt who predicted that Israel will win and they even celebrated the win of Israel before the war was over. And at that time there were very harsh statements made against those leaders ...
