A rocket attack by Takfiri terrorists has left two people dead and 14 others injured in the Syrian port city of Latakia.

"At least two people were killed and 14 people were wounded when rockets fell on March 8 street, near the (Islamic authority) Dar al-Ifta building in the middle of the city," said Rami Abdel Rahman, the head of the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, on Thursday.

The militants fired the rockets from positions overlooking the coastal city before leaving for areas under their control, Rahman added.

Syria's official SANA news agency had earlier reported that "several people were wounded on Thursday morning when rockets fell on Latakia and caused material damage."

Back in May, another rocket attack by Takfiris killed four people in the city.

Also on Thursday, the Syrian army attacked the positions of al-Qaeda linked al-Nusra terrorists in the northern countryside of Latakia Province, killing many of them, SANA reported.

Several Daesh elements were also killed following Syrian army airstrikes on the central province of Homs.

'Fighting terrorism tops Syria's priorities'

Meanwhile, Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi has reiterated Damascus’s steadfast pledge to fight terrorism, adding that the crisis in the Arab country could only be settled through a political solution.

“The components of the political solution to the crisis in Syria are clear, on top fighting terrorism,” he said on Wednesday evening in an interview with the Syrian Satellite TV.

Syria has been fighting against massive foreign-sponsored militancy since early 2011. The conflict has reportedly killed an estimated 240,000 people so far, including nearly 12,000 children.
