Press TV has conducted an interview with William Spring, a human rights activist in London, about recent reports accusing the British government of conducting secret biological tests on unsuspecting human subjects.
Following is a rough transcription.
Press TV: Shocking revelations in this new research divulged by the University of Kent. Give us your thoughts on the repercussions of this revelation.
Spring: Well, there is no real great surprise by anything here. [Inaudible] the Official Secrets Act operates it means nothing actually gets out about what the governments are doing to us until about 50, 60 or 70 years after the event. So these revelations are a beat old-hat in one sense; because we know that Howard Wilson who was the Prime Minister at the time in the 60s, he was an extremely ruthless politician.
If you remember, he evacuated or ethnically cleansed everyone out of Diego Garcia to make room for an American base. There is no limit to what Wilson would do if necessary for, as he believed, national security even [it was] experimenting upon the British public. But of course, he is not here to answer back these allegations now.
However, what I feel is that this ministry of defense syndrome which I call the Christmas Island Syndrome, many years ago when the atomic tests was first taking place, they used troops as guinea pigs to see what the effects of radiation would be on them. This is a very interesting academic exercise for the ministry of defense and they are still at it. I mean only a few weeks ago, we had the revelations of troops going to Brecon Beacons, a mountain terrain in Wales, and three of them literally dying when the MoD were well-aware that this is a likely consequence of depriving people of water, telling them to walk eighty miles to wherever they had to go in very high temperatures.
So the ministry of defense hasn’t learned a thing from their various misdeeds and I think we, the British public, have a claim for reparations against the ministry of defense, because it is these people who have actually incited the British government to do these bizarre tests. For example, on the underground it is a very dangerous test they did.
I hope that something will come out more that will actually illuminate the issue more than before. Although as I said, it is so late in the day that we do not know what they are doing now and as I said, whatever they are doing now is horrendous and absolutely horrible, but we are not going to find out about it in another fifty years.
Look at the way things have [been] kept routinely covered up by the British establishment. For example, the Iraq war which is still going on eight years after it was commissioned by parliament.
So I think we just need to be patient. I am afraid when the actual results come out of this terrible scandal most of us won’t be around but let’s hope that some future generation takes a hold on these wretched politicians who behave like criminals. They believe that the British public is there as captive audience just to be experimented on like guinea pigs and I think that we have to get rid of the lot of them.
A sort of massive uprising against the way the British state runs its affairs; this is the most secretive state in the world.
